After taking a long hiatus and losing the blog content in a Wordpress upgrade gone awry, Debatably Beta is making a slow and cautious left turn onto Blogging Ave.

Ive built myself a shiny new blogging platform (probably to be opened in the future) around what I thought would be best for the blogging programmer: a snippet management system that lets me write and store code snippets (more on that later) and inject them into TinyMCE cleanly and easily, pretty smart templating, some fancy jQuery plugins (fbautocomplete for tags, a fairly-heavily modified copy of facebox for in-place asset and snippet inclusion), some handy keyboard shortcuts, a homegrown Quicksilver-like concierge, and more. Once the dust settles on the back-end, I'll post some screen shots. The system -- tentatively called Betablog -- is still fresh, but its stable and suits my needs better than anything I've found before.

Of course, using Django doesn't hurt, either.

Here are some plans, in no particular order:

Recreate django-sms, an application based on a blog post long ago. This application adds simple SMS functionality to models and their actions via email-to-SMS gateways.
Finish and package django-bayesianvoting, a voting app for rating objects that can order the objects in two ways: by the number of votes and by their "realistic" rank compared to everything else on the site or per content type. The latter is done with Bayesian Ranking. This app is ready to fly.
Wrap up django-usertags, a fork of James Buchannan's django-tagging app that allows users to add their own tags to objects, a la Flickr. This app is on its way, but maybe only 60% done.
Announce a few projects that have been simmering for a bit too long.
Close the lid to this computer and go to Paramount Room for a Kobe Beef Burger & Pint.
